Sour, Sourer, Too Sour

The children are allowed to take a snack into school with them, but they are often on the boring side. These 'Zombie Real Fruit Gummies' are something that are healthy, but are cooler, both in design and flavour. They are the type of fruit gummie that my children have been eating for years, but with a sour touch and a cool bag.The ingredients are mostly fruit so suitable for a pack lunch. The texture is soft and they taste nice, especially the plain flavour. I found the super sour version far too powerful to enjoy, but the children like the novelty aspect of them. The packets are easy to open and at £1.50 they are not cheap, but good quality.

The fruit gummies are perfect for everyone, but the sour ones are so intense

I'm always on the hunt for snacks that aren't junk food so I grabbed these sweets - and they were a very split opinion between me and my husband. The clear winner for me where the fruit gummies. Made with 94% fruit and they count as one of your five a day, they're such a guilt free treat. The texture is perfect, they're not too chewy, and they don't stick to your teeth. Now onto the sour ones..... Oh wow they do not mess around. I tried the regular sours first, and one bite was enough to make my eyes water - i had to grab a glass of milk to cut out the tang. The sour coating hits hard and lingers for a while, then I tried the extreme sours and couldn't even get it past my tongue, they were just far too sour for me to enjoy, and was fully convinced , all the bags would end up in the bin.My husband on the other hand has demolished all 8 packets of the sour ones within 2 days and keeps asking me when am I going to order some more. The only reason i'm knocking off a star is down to personal taste.

Quite sweet, love the distinct flavours though

I thought this was a healthier swap for pick 'n' mix, but there's a lot more to it than I thought. This is the Zombie Real Fruit Sweets Variety Pack, which comes with 3 types, 12 bags.Firstly, looking at it nutritionally, all three varieties are similar: around 114-119 kcal per 35 g bag, 0 g fat, and sugar making up roughly 80-87% of the total carbohydrate, which works out to about 27-29% of an adult's reference sugar intake for one small bag. So yes, it's "no added sugar" but that doesn't mean low sugar. The sweetness here comes from concentrated apple juice and natural sweetener (erythritol). I like that the ingredients list is short and recognisable, with natural colourings like black carrot, beetroot, chlorophyll, paprika, and curcumin rather than artificial dyes. Citric and malic acid are present, giving the sour varieties their tang. Which brings me to the next point - how does it taste? First impressions of the fruit gummies (non-sour ones), is that these are very sweet. It made me instantly check the sugar. Then, what attracted me to this - the "extreme sourness" wording. I am a massive fan of sour things, and it is...okay. It is a bit sour initially but only in dusting, then when that dissolves it's the fruit gummy base. Though I still enjoyed them. Otherwise, flavour wise, there are distinct, orange, strawberry, apple and lemon flavours which are very distinct and I personally found that quite enjoyable. In terms of the texture, these are gummies rather than jellies in the British "wine gum" sense. They're sticky to handle and has an odd smell when you first open the bag, somewhere between plastic and dried raisins, which was slightly off-putting before tasting - but thankfully it doesn't carry through into the flavour itself. The texture sits in a nice middle ground: soft and yielding like a hard jelly rather than a tough, dense chew, but with enough structure that they don't fall apart, so they're not chewy in the toffee sense but also nowhere near as firm as a wine gum.Love the product packaging. Unfortunately, one of the sweet bags arrived open, so those sweets spilled and made all of the rest of the packets quite sticky. Nonetheless, overall, for anyone wanting a sweet snack with real fruit and good flavour variety, these are great, though I wouldn't call them "healthy" in the sense of being low sugar, and it shows - they taste quite sweet to me.

Surprisingly tasty but not remotely sour...

I'm always up for a spot of sweets or similar, and the Zombie Store via the magic of Amazon Vine provided with these "Real fruit sweets" variety pack. The blurb boasts 90% fruit, no added sugar, vegan, gluten free, blah, blah, so already it was off to a bad start, but I was willing to give it a try.It arrived in a display box, not unlike the ones you might see in Poundland and the like, and inside of this are 12 individual packs of the sweets. For your monies you get 3 flavours/types - sour, extreme sour, and fruit gummies. None of these are remotely sour, including the extreme one, which is why it drops a mark. It would have dropped more marks for the complete lack of sour for anything, if not for the fact that each flavour/type was tasty. Very tasty indeed. They were very fruity, almost juicy, and apparently can form part of your "five a day". I'm not entirely sold on that, but these are a very nice snack/treat.I just wish that they were remotely sour...

Excellent sweet treats

As a big sweet fan, I was really intrigued as to how these tasted as they are made with 90% fruit which was a great perk not to be made with all artificial sugar. To begin with the packaging is amazing, I love the box design it looks fantastic and I would happily have on display as a lot of design and energy has gone into it. Inside I was surprised to see all the packets were on a hanger like you find in a shop, this was a funky design I loved and also made it easy to store and almost like a feature with the cool designs on show. The sweets themselves I loved, they have great flavour and are chewy, the sour sugar on the outside is great!Overall great sweets that have a little more healthy benefits than other sweets which is a nice change and the design is just great, I would absolutely recommend these.

No braaaains, just fruuuuit!

Opened the pack expecting to find braaaains but only found delicious gummies instead! These Zombie gummies come in 3 varieties: normal, sour and extra sour. And moreover they are made from real fruit (90%). They are primarily made up of apple and claim to have natural flavourings to achieve the apple, blackberry, pineapple and strawberry flavours. They are quite sticky and it would have been nice if these had been finished with some maize starch powder like jelly babies. Even the sour ones do have a crystalised finish on them, but the stickiness of the gummy makes its way through. In terms of texture, these are quite satisfying; they are not extremely chewy like most gummy sweets, but are just really firm, with a gummy like texture. The sour options certainly hit the spot more favourably than the non sour option. In terms of flavour, in a blind test I think people would struggle to identify the flavours, but my favourite was the apple, followed by strawberry. I struggled to identify pineapple and blackberry as the other flavours without knowing what they were! You get roughly 12 sweets in each bag and with 12 bags at £17.99 (at time of review), these are definitely on the expensive side as this works out at a whopping £1.50 per bag. Each bag is pretty small at 35G, making them ideal individual portions. At <120kcals per bag, they are not too calorific and they are also vegetarian, gluten free and halal friendly, ensuring very few people miss out on the fun. Each bag also claims to be 1 of your 5 a day with no additional sugar, so 5 of these should do the trick if you are so inclined! As much as I enjoyed these, it really comes down to price for me. They are made from real fruit and therein lies the rub that is for the consumer to decide; expensive fruit sweets or just whole, fresh fruit. So I’m sure there is a market for these, but with the small bags and overall cost, I’m struggling to justify it. It’s a shame really, as these are really delicious. They make a great packed lunch treat, but I don’t think I could justify these as a regular/weekly treat for the kids.

Shop display ready, lovely 'Zombie-themed' tastes

In the interest of science, I've been trying these before giving them to my kids. I know I know, won't someone think of the parents?!And I can conclude that these are a great breaktime snack. I'm not sold on the 'one of your 5 a day' claim, but fine, if there's fruit juice in here so much the better. But I don't mind my kids having a pre-packed sweet snack anyway.Three varieties - regular fruit flavoured, sour and extra sour. All taste great! Not quite the texture of H@ribo but still good to chew. All come in small bags that are easy enough for children to open. The designs are child-friendly, the sweets are colourful and with body parts (recognised brain, bone but is that a heart or a strange four-fingerered hand?!)Sour sweets are good and sour, really nice on the tongue, the fruit flavours aren't too strong but are distinct and are tasty.Too small to give to toddlers safely, but fine for school-aged children. Not too messy, might be sticky but that's as bad as it would get.I like that these are vegan and no added sugar, that doesn't detract from the flavours or texture. They are recognisable shapes and a good quality sweet for sharing with kids.Expensive for what you get though, looking at the size of the bags.

So Delicious!

Honestly, if I hadn't been told that these gummies are vegan, I really wouldn't have known. They are really delicious, have a great texture, and are plenty sweet enough for me. I'm very impressed, and would happily buy more. That said, I do think the marketing is a bit disingenuous; while it may be true that these gummies have no added sugar, there is still plenty in each 35g pack (24g-26g). Granted, it's fruit sugar from apple juice but if sugar is something you're trying to avoid or cut down on, I feel that you may be misled by these.I also feel that the body parts aren't very clear as to what they are. Certainly, with the sour and extreme sour ones it's very hard to tell, due to the coating, but even with the fruit gummies, they look more like blobs than actual hearts, brains, and bones, etc. Still, I can't say that I've spent too much time agonising over this. That is to say, I haven't at all - I've just been enjoying them for what they are.In terms of different flavours, I don't think they're overly discernible - they all taste pretty generically fruity to me. That's not a bad thing... I do find them to be delicious. The fruity ones, that is; I'm not so keen on the sours. However, my weekly games group absolutely loved both the sours and extreme sours, and devoured them all in one session. The consensus was that they were pretty fab!Since I never buy little packs of sweets like these, I have no idea whether £1.50 per bag of c. 12 gummies is good value or not but I'd be happy to pay it.

Really nice, but the sour ones don't mess about

Picked these up out of curiosity and they've been surprisingly good. The fruit flavours are really nice and they're a fun change from standard sweets. The zombie body part shapes are a bit daft, but that's part of the appeal. Now, the extreme sour ones... they are not joking. They're properly strong. In fact, they were strong enough to give me heartburn, which is almost impressive. That minor self-inflicted issue aside, they're genuinely tasty and the box didn't last very long in our house.Good bitsReally nice flavoursFun shapesVegan and no added sugarPlenty of varietyLess goodThe extreme sour ones are seriously sourMay trigger heartburn if you're a greedy git like me 😄If you like fruity sweets and don't mind a bit of sour punishment, these are well worth a try. 🧟‍♂️🍬👍

Tasty gummies but price could be an issue

I did find these gummies refreshing and tasty. It’s nice to find sweets which are predominantly made of real fruit juice without too many additives. They are slightly sticky due to the lack of gelatine but not as sticky as other vegan jelly sweets i’ve tried. The plain gummies are my favourite, I can’t tell much difference between the sour and extreme sour. What i struggle with is the current price which works out at £1.50/bag. On average there’s 10 sweets in each bag which make these expensive.I’d recommend these for anyone seeking vegan sweets, if the price point is ok for the purchaser.

Expensive

I got the Variety pack with Gummies, Sours, and Xtreme Sours. These are pretty good, they definitely taste better than the bars this company does, but slightly less healthy as the bar are 100% fruit whereas these are 90-94%. These are mostly made with apple juice too, so lack some of the other things you'd get in fruit like fibre. For me, I think the biggest downside the is value for money. At £17.99 for 12 packs, this puts them in a pretty premium price range for how little you get in each bag. That said, they are nice. And although they definitely don't taste like normal sweets, they are still in my opinion very nice tasting and think that most kids would love these. The texture is very similar to a lot of gummy sweets out there too.Overall these are an expensive, but somewhat healthy alternative to sweets for your kids.

Yummy and really quite healthy!

I'm not really a massive consumer of sweets, and being a vegetarian whose also coeliac, can be quite limiting in terms of dietry needs.I was really surprised by these Zombie Body Partz Fruit Gummies. The variety pack includes the standard Fruit Gummies, along with Sour Gummies and Xtreme Sour Gummies. Each pack has four fruity flavours, and they're all tasty and moreish.Ingredient-wise, they're just great. Over 90% fruit, gluten-free, no added sugar, vegan, no gelatine and natural colourings and flavourings. It just goes to show that sweets don't need to be full of the junk ingredients that many have.Coming on a hanging display, the presentation is bright and in your face. It really feels like a good quality product through and through. They have a great chewy texture too.The standard gummies are sweet and fruity and very moreish. Even the Xtreme sour isn't really 'that' sour and is still really good, and makes a nice contrast to the standard ones. The fact that these healthy, real fruit sweets can count as 1 of your 5-a-day too is mind-blowing.

Just My Thoughts
Taste just like sweets!

First impressions of these are great, they come in a brightly coloured branded display box and even include a prehung display thing that they all hang down from, which I assume is designed for shops. My daughter (7) was so excited to get these, saying she’s seen someone else at school have them and all the kids wanted to try them. I was shocked they are one of your five a day and constrain fruit as they have the look, texture and taste of sweet fruit gums. I had to scan the ingredient list as I couldn’t believe they were actually made from fruit given how much they just taste like sweets! The orange pack for example the main ingredient is apple juice concentrate (94%). I also love how they are vegan which isn’t always the case with gummies so that was another plus. I’m still considering them a bit of a treat rather than something that’s completely healthy as they do have a fair bit of sugar in them but it’s not added it’s from the fruit juice I believe. Each gummie is shaped in a zombie themed way so there’s bones, hearts and brains. Flavour wise my daughter prefers the orange fruit pack the best, I think the extreme sour is a bit too much for her.Overall I think they’d are good quality and great as a lunch box treat! I also think they offer good value for money considering how many packs you get. With this in mind it’s 5 stars from us!

Lovely, mindful snack choice, pricey

I got the 12 pack variety box, so that was a mix of the fruit gums, the sours and xtreme sours. I actually really like these. Whatever the marketing blurb says there is no way these are 'healthy'. There is sugar even if fructose. However, if you are craving a snack, or feel obliged to let your kids snack (and all parents do) then this is at least a much more mindful choice - and certainly less unhealthy than most UPF stuff we can choose from. Texture is good - like real sweets, and even though they are marketed at kids as a fully grown 50 something adult, I will admit I really, really like the extreme sour flavour. I've not given five stars, even though the product is great, simply because of price. Even buying a bulk 12 pack, the cost per unit seems very high. I know everything is pricey these days - but great as these are, the price means they may not be value. Take price out of it, I would be giving 5 stars.

Lovely fruity taste and apparently very, very sour.

I've been able to get through all three varieties in this box now and, without question, the regular fruit gummies disappeared first. They're honestly some of the nicest fruit gummies I've had in a long time. They're slightly firmer than your average jelly sweet, but after a couple of chews they almost melt away with a lovely fruity taste that doesn't come across as artificial at all.I kept reaching back into the packet thinking, "I'll just have one more..." and before long I was looking at an empty bag wondering where they all went. They're made mostly from fruit too, which is a nice bonus, although if you're buying these it'll probably be because they taste good first and foremost...The sour gummies were a bit of a different story for me, but that's more down to my own taste than the sweets themselves. I've never really been a sour sweets sort of person. The regular sour ones were actually quite nice though; my little ones happily worked their way through those...Then came the Xtreme Sours. I handed them over thinking it'd be entertaining and the verdict came back almost immediately: "...that's too sour." I genuinely didn't think I'd find the day where they admitted defeat to a sour sweet, but alas, the time has come. So, if you've got children who treat sour sweets like a competitive sport, these might finally give them a worthy opponent. As for me, I'll quite happily keep stealing the regular fruit gummies whenever nobody's looking...
